Last night I joined a webinar hosted by the environmental journalist Damian Carrington. Naomi Klein, Saleemul Huq, Ayisha Siddiqa and Kate Raworth have all contributed essays to the fabulous The Climate Book created by Greta Thunberg. Each of the guests gave a precis of their chapter and then took questions. I was particularly struck by the overwhelming need for hope; to submit to the message that we are all doomed is to accept that fate and do nothing. Doing nothing will have the same result as believing that there isn’t a crisis. Doing nothing is not be an option. If you don’t have a copy of the book we’re giving one away to a lucky winner - head over to the Salt & Pegram instagram page and share the post with a friend.
The final question asked each of the guests for a slogan that would capture their message and encourage us to get active. I think I got these right but I was scrambling for a pen and neither my old brain or the pencil that I found are as sharp and they used to be.
“Not Me. Us.” Ayisha Siddiqa
“System Change Not Climate Change.” Kate Raworth
“Invest In Your Future.” Greta Thunberg
We Are Citizens Of The Planet First.” Saleemul Huq
Change Is Hardest Just Before You Make It. The Time Is Now.” Naomi Klein
