In recent weeks IKEA announced a buy back scheme. It’s not functioning yet but the intention is for them to buy IKEA furniture that you no longer need and then sell it on the Bargain Section of their website. You may only get a voucher to buy yet more candles but it feels like a very positive idea.
Skinflint, the industrial lighting people, offer a similar scheme that keeps their products in circulation and out of the tip. It makes perfect sense; their products are reclaimed anyway - again you may only get a credit for a future purchase - and it makes the scheme sustainable both environmentally and commercially.
If you know of any furniture companies offering this kind of initiative let me know.
